The source image for this is actually just a hand of a girl who got up in
front of my camera while I was trying to take a picture of somebody else. I
liked the way her fingers looked, so I used them in this piece. I moved
her thumb around to the other side of her and mirrored the result in
several ways. My first attempts looks rather crab-like, but I think that's
hard to see now. The image is supposed to represent a unity and merging of
races. Also, where the two hands merge in each half, a shadow of an
hourglass can be seen, showing that this unity has been progressing and
will progress through time.
