Paul Joseph Schwert was born on January 24, 1888, in Buffalo, NY. He was the fourth son of Frank Carl and Julia (née Schlee) (= Schlia) Schwert. Paul was baptized as "Paul Bernhard Schwert" at Saint Boniface R.C. Church, 124 Locust Street, Buffalo on January 27, 1888.
Paul later changed his middle name, probably to "Joseph." On September 6, 1911, at Saint Boniface, Paul married Mary Rose Wagner, daughter of Jacob and Mary (née Leitz) Wagner.
Paul was a bricklayer and worked in various places. He worked at a reservoir at the corner of Jefferson and Best Streets in Buffalo. He also worked for a time, at Farrell-Birmingham on Vulcan St. in Buffalo. Paul never retired, for he died on July 23, 1942, at the early age of 54 of adeno-carinoma of the liver. Mary Rose (née Wagner) Schwert died on November 2, 1944.
Both Paul and Mary are interred in Lot 72, Section FF, United German & French Cemetery (Pine Hill), Cheektowaga, NY.
